There are different celebrations during the month of March including Women's History Month, Dr. Seuss's Birthday and St. Patrick's day. Below are some websites that will review and challenge your knowledge about these celebrations.
Women's History Month National Women's Hall of Fame-- The National Women's Hall of Fame is the nation's oldest membership organization dedicated to honoring and celebrating the achievements of distinguished American women. This website highlights the women who have been inducted into this Hall of Fame. Smithsonian Education- a website with several resources for learning about women in history. InfoPlease- a timeline of famous firts by American Women. Time for Kids- Women's History Month- four different sections to learn about women. Scholastic- Women Who Changed History- meet five women who have changed history. Children's Encyclopdia of Women- this encyclopedia was started in March 1998 by 3rd and 4th grade students at Pocantico Hills School in Sleepy Hollow, NY. It is their reports on several famous women in history.
Dr Seuss's Birthday is celebrated on March 2nd. Seussville- a fun place to find a variety of games and activities celebrate the life od Dr. Seuss! Dr. Seuss Memorial- a place to learn about Dr. Seuss. Fact Monster- a biography of Dr. Seuss. ThinkQuest- This ThinkQuest was designed by students to share information about Dr. Seuss and his children's books. Read summaries of different books and learn why Dr. Seuss wrote them.

December Links of the Month
Rudolph is Missing is a wonderful interactive book that takes students on an adventure to find Rudolph for Santa. As an added bonus, during the adventure students are asked thoughtful questions to answer. Northpole.com is a wonderful place to find some great Christmas fun! Check out the Elves’ Game Chest since it is filled with several interactive games including, checkers, word search, crossword puzzle and even a game to reinforce telling time and making change! In Santa’s Secret Village you will find more than two dozen original stories with hand drawn or painted artwork. They also come complete with audio! And for the next game, grab your hot chocolate, turn up the volume and have some fun with Disco Dancing Santa!! Merry-Christmas.com- this is the jackpot in interactive Christmas themed games. There are 5 themed Christmas mini quizzes, decorate the Christmas tree, tic tac toe, a Santa puzzle, etc. Santa Rodeo is a very fun way to have students practice spelling skills. Two predetermined words appear on the screen and they have to click on the word that is spelled correctly. There are two levels – the easier level being kids and the more difficult level being adults. They have a concentration-type Christmas theme game- match the pictures with the words. Christmas Balloon burst- several balloons with letters on them float through the air and students use the mouse to pop the balloons with the correct letters to spell the word of the picture in the box. Northumberland has two basic numeracy activities with a Holiday theme: Christmas Tree and Santa. SantaAdventCalendar- this is an absolutely beautiful site. Like an advent calendar, beginning on Dec 1st you click on the number 1 and it reveals the beginning of a wonderful story. Each day when you click on the next number another chapter is revealed. Storylineonline.com - head over to this site to have Lou Diamond Phillips read one of my favorite stories “The Polar Express”. Really cooooooooooool! Speakaboos. this site offers free online children’s stories and they have two great Christmas selections: The Fir Tree by Hans Christian Andersen and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Hannukkah Jigsaw Puzzles from Apples4theteacher.com - offers four jigsaw puzzles in three different difficulty levels. It does not give you a preview of the finished pictures. Click on the puzzle you want to complete. Dreidel Spin from the Jewish Outreach Center- this was the best dreidel activity I found- vey realistic. It also offers very good directions and an explanation of the game. Hanukkah match game- basicallly a concentration game, matching symbols. Hanukkah Lights- allows you to drop and drag objects to create a menorah. The Hanukkah House- a wonderful activity to expose/teach/reinforce the Hebrew language. Stduents read the Henbrew words on the left and whenthey drag the words to the frame the object appears which allows them to create a Hanukkah House. Hanukkah Jumble Word Game- unscramble the word (can not move the letters using the mouse so you would have to use paper and pencil) and then click on the word to reveal the answer. Chabad.org- this site has several Hanukkah activities. In the multimedia sectionthere are some very goo videos regarding Hanukka traditions. Sue Ellen's scrap book from PBS- offers a very nice book about the history and tradition of Hanukkah.
November Links of the Month
Welcome to a Pilgrim Village- a Scholastic e-book with audio support for the text. The First Thanksgiving- a wonderful interactive website from Scholastic that offers some great activities to help students understand the life of Pilgrims. This site aso provides audio support. What Really Happened at the First Thanksgiving- an interactive site from Plimoth Plantation that allows students to be investigative historians. Very fun and very informative! Fill in the Blanks- A Thanksgiving Story- listen to the Thanksgiving story and then complete the missing words in the paragraph by selecting the correct word from the drop down menu. Here is a link to another similar activity. Again listen to the story and then complete the sentenes from the drop down menu. Thanksgiving on the History Channel- this site has several fun and informative videos, fun facts and photos related to Thanksgiving. Match Thanksgiving words- click and drag the Thanksgiving words to match the picture. Weekly Reader: The Story of Squanto- an interactive video story of Squanto complete with a quiz! Weekly Reader: The Story of Johnny Appleseed- an interative video story of Johnny Appleseen complete with a quiz! Pumpkin Facts- information from the University of Illinois to test how much you know about pumpkins. I Spy Library- Halloween is the perfect time to play this interactive game. Scary Spuds- a fun way to allow creativity to flow-- create your own scary spuds by clicking and dragging facial features on your spud! Trick or Treat Maze- a Halloween maze that is lots of fun! Use your arrow keys to make your way through the maze! Monster Match- rearrange/switch Halloween pictures to make 3 in row. Spooky Sequences by 1- Oswego School District activity to practice number sequences. Ghost Blasters Even- practice identifying even numbers. Ghost Blasters Odd- practice identifying odd numbers. Ghost Blasters III-adddition- this game requires two players and helps you practice two digit plus two digit numbers. Ghost Blasters III-subtraction- this game requires two players and helps you practice two digit numbers minus one digit numbers.
